Since we began Risking Light (previously SMOOCH), we have been inundated with emails and correspondence from people who want to share their stories and perspectives on forgiveness. In honor of that, we are launching a user-generated video initiative called the Voices of Forgiveness campaign.

SMOOCH is now Risking Light: Journeys of Forgiveness

We are excited to announce that SMOOCH is changing its name to Risking Light: Journeys of Forgiveness. Why? For those of you who have been with us from the beginning, you will remember that SMOOCH was inspired by a collaboration we had with The Smooch! Project. Although we LOVE the title SMOOCH, we feel it no longer accurately reflects what this film is about.

Mary and Oshea on MSNBC!

Risking Light's own Mary and Oshea share their story with MSNBC's Melissa Harris-Perry as she explores questions around justice and the state of incarceration in the United States. Harris-Perry digs deeper into Oshea's responsibility to Mary and her late son Laramiun as he moves forward in his life outside of prison.

Hi, my name is Dawn Mikkelson and I’m the Director of Risking Light and the Risking Light Global Forgiveness Initiative. Why take on the topic of forgiveness? Believe it or not, this topic is proving to be quite controversial, especially around the definition of the word forgiveness (which will be discussed in later posts . . .).

How do you define forgiveness? How does it feel to forgive? How does it feel to be forgiven? Why forgive? Why not? Is there anything that is unforgivable? Do you have a person experience with forgiveness?

Risking Light has started a new initiative of collecting Forgiveness Stories. Check out highlights from our first event in May!

Risking Light has taken on this initiative to help spread the dialogue about forgiveness within the film and through the official Risking Light Documentary YouTube Channel and Social Media. Our team is setting up public "forgiveness shoots" where we ask members of the general public about their opinions on forgiveness and reconciliation. Asking basic questions about how people define forgiveness for themselves. How does is feel to to forgive? How does it feel to be forgiven? Why forgive? Why not? Is there anything that is unforgiveable? Do you have personal experiences with forgiveness? Etc.
